The Sprouting Root

Old root, new sprouts

A regenerative family farm on Northfield Road, growing food the way it was meant to be grown — with the soil, not against it.

What We Grow Our Story
Scroll

The old root
sends up something new

Patrick grew up on a small farm. He left, built a career, raised a family — and the land kept calling. The Sprouting Root is what happens when you come back: not to recreate what was, but to grow something better. A regenerative farm built on the belief that healthy soil grows healthy food, and healthy food builds a healthy community.

The root — Growing up on a working farm, learning what the land can teach
The arc — A career built, a family grown, the pull of the soil never quite fading
The sprout — Northfield Road, Watertown. Hands in the dirt again. Something new from something old.
🌱

"I want to make it regenerative and build
a story to tell others."

What we grow

Everything is grown regeneratively in Zone 6b — cover-cropped, composted, and tended by hand. No shortcuts, no sprays, just soil that gets better every year.

🥚
Farm Eggs
Pasture-raised from our free-range flock. Rich yolks, strong shells, happy hens.
🎃
Pumpkins
Field-grown for fall — carving, cooking, and our annual pumpkin carving event.
🍅
Tomatoes
Beefsteak and cherry varieties. Sun-ripened, never picked green.
🥔
Potatoes
Fifty plants strong. Fresh-dug and cured in our root cellar.
🧄
Garlic
Hardneck garlic, fall-planted and hand-harvested. The foundation of every good meal.
🌻
Sunflowers
Cut bundles from our roadside beds. Succession-planted for blooms all season.
🍑
Peaches & Cherries
Four peach trees, Juliet cherry bushes, and Concord grapes — fresh and as preserves.
🫐
Berries
Seven blueberry bushes plus raspberry and blackberry brambles. Summer's best eating.
🥬
Greens & Herbs
Salad greens, fresh-cut herbs, and dried herb jars. Greenhouse-extended into the shoulders.

Seasonal events

Regenerative isn't a label.
It's the whole point.

Most farms treat regenerative practices as a feature. We built the farm around them. Every decision — what we plant, how we compost, where we sell — starts with one question: does the soil end up better than we found it?

🌍
Soil First
Cover crops, compost, worm castings, no-till where we can. The soil is the business.
🔄
Closed Loops
Chicken manure feeds compost, compost feeds soil, soil feeds plants, plants feed people.
🤝
Community Roots
Local food, local sales, local gathering. The farm exists for the people around it.
